After a brief hiatus, I’m excited to resume sharing my adventures exploring the breathtaking trails of Hong Kong. It’s astonishing how a vibrant city can also boast such captivating landscapes.
Among the many remarkable trails, there is one that stands out as an icon in Hong Kong. Nestled between Kowloon Tong and Tai Wai, this trail is known as Lion Rock. When viewed from Choi Hung, the distinctive rock formation strikingly resembles a crouching lion. It is said that a visit to Hong Kong is incomplete without ascending Lion Rock at least once, making it a must-see attraction for outdoor enthusiasts.
Hike details
Distance: 5.73 km
Elevation gain: 495 m
Time: 1h 45m (inclusive of long rests and photo taking time)
Difficulty: 3/5
Our journey commenced at Wong Tai Sin MTR station, leading us towards Chuk Yuen Road. Ascending the mountain from there, we eventually reached our destination at Tsz Wan Shan Road.
Along our hike, we encountered several picturesque spots perfect for capturing memorable photos. Our route led us to the first photo spot, the Reunification Pavilion, which offers a splendid view of the Kowloon side. As we continued our ascent up the mountain, we discovered even more photo-worthy locations awaiting our exploration.
In general, I found the hike to be relatively manageable. Initially, there were a considerable number of stairs, which happen to be my least favorite part of hiking. However, as we ascended higher, the terrain transitioned into more rugged and unpaved paths.
Below, you’ll find a brief vlog capturing the highlights of my entire hike. I hope you enjoy watching it! Additionally, I have also prepared a drone video showcasing the breathtaking views from the summit.
