Does anyone else feel a bit intimidated when it comes to handling live seafood, especially those with claws? Personally, I find it quite daunting, but for the holiday season, I wanted to try something new in the kitchen. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I decided to give it a go, and I must say, I’m thrilled with the outcome. It was my first time preparing live lobster, and I discovered that boiling lobster is surprisingly easy and incredibly delicious!
Ingredients:
In my opinion, fresh seafood possesses a natural sweetness and flavor that is truly remarkable on its own. Therefore, for this particular dish, I opted for minimal ingredients to allow the seafood to shine.
- Fresh live lobster (mine was approximately 1.25 lb)
- Unsalted butter
- Lemon
- Parsley for garnish
Method:
- Bring a pot of water large enough to hold your lobster to a boil
- Put your lobster into the boiling water for around 9 minutes (1.25 lb size)
- Remove the boiled lobster from the water and place aside
- To prepare the brown butter, place the butter into a light-coloured pan so you can see when the butter has browned
- Whisk the butter until melted and brown with a wooden spoon or spatula
- Set butter aside when ready
- Plate your lobster, garnish with parsley and a slice of lemon
Isn’t the recipe wonderfully straightforward? To present the lobster, I carefully removed the shell from the body, brushed it with the browned butter prepared earlier, and artfully arranged it on the plate alongside the head and claws.
Notes:
- If you’re working with lobsters of varying sizes, you can consult this page for a helpful reference on boiling times. It provides guidance on the appropriate boiling durations for lobsters of different sizes.
- Before enjoying the lobster, it’s essential to remove the intestinal track, discard the gills, and eliminate the sand sac. For detailed instructions on how to clean the lobster, you can refer to this page for guidance.
- Another option is to save the lobster shells and utilize them to prepare a flavorful lobster stock by boiling them.
