Having a pack of frozen mussels in the freezer is always a smart move. When you’re feeling a bit lazy and don’t want to tackle a complex meal, this Belgian-style mussels recipe is the ideal choice. It’s a straightforward recipe that requires just a few ingredients, most of which are likely already in your fridge. If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying Belgian-style mussels yet, it’s definitely a culinary experience worth exploring. And remember, don’t let that delectable sauce go to waste—prepare some fries, wedges, or bread for dipping and savor every last bit!
Ingredients:
- 1/4 White onion (diced)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- Fresh thyme
- 1/4 cups White wine
- 40g Butter
- One pack of frozen mussels
Method:
- In a pot, sauté the onion and garlic.
- Next, add the mussels directly into the pot.
- Add the white wine, butter and thyme. Close the lid. Be sure the cook out the wine so that the sauce will not be sour.
- Stir until the mussels open and leave for a few minutes (~3 minutes).
- Serve with fried potato (french fries/ wedges). I served with sourdough bread.
Notes:
- As an alternative, you can use tarragon and English parsley in place of thyme as the herb for this recipe.
- When using frozen mussels, there is no need to defrost them beforehand. You can add the mussels directly into the pot to preserve their freshness. Unlike fresh mussels, which can be blanched with the option of keeping some of the blanching water, frozen cooked mussels do not require blanching.
